This is our second year making Verdelho and we’re hooked. We love this old Portuguese white varietal that was rescued by a group of dedicated growers in the 1970s. Without their efforts we would all miss out on a fantastic wine. The wine is full-bodied and flavorsome, with tropical flavors of pineapple and guava. Careful tasters will pickup some honeysuckle and spiciness, both on the nose and on the palate. In 2011, we picked Verdelho at a slightly higher brix level. The added ripeness has resulted in more dominant fruit flavors. 190 cases produced.

We have only seven rows and the fence line of Riesling grapes planted on our estate in 1966. With less than 2% residual sugar (RS), it is a beautifully balanced wine with bright, exotic fruits and a racy acidity making the finish crisp & clean. Enjoy slightly chilled on sultry afternoons or all year long with spicy Asian dishes or smoked cheese and apples. Just like the mural (from our winery) that graces the label, we think this wine is out of this world! 279 cases produced.

The French Colombard grapes are from a very small block of near-90 year-old vines topping our dry-farmed, hillside vineyard in Oakville. These vines are Botrytized by the time we harvested in late November. This wine offers unique apricot flavors and with only 5% residual sugar, a refreshingly clean finish. It pairs beautifully with cheeses, dried fruits and mixed, salted nuts.

The St. Helena Tinto vineyard seems to get better every year. The 60 years we’ve farmed the original vineyard in Oakville have informed us that the varietals in this field blend perform better as the vines age. With the St. Helena vineyard well into its second decade, its true character is beginning to show. The wine is a deep garnet with a nose of dark berries. On the palate you’ll find dark fruit, some florals, cassis, and a little plum. This is a complex wine that will age well. Drink now through 2020. 250 cases produced.

This tiny vineyard, located outside the front door of the Kirkham’s old summer cottage has again produced an exceptional vintage. The vineyard is almost one hundred and remains planted to the traditional field blend which the Delazers planted before Gene’s mother purchased the property in 1955. The vines are the oldest in production in Oakville, predating the To-Kalon I-Block by at least twenty years. As you remember, the wine is complex and rich and provides a glimpse into the Napa that existed long before Cabernet Sauvignon burst onto the scene; when Robert Louis Stephenson wrote that the wines of the region were “bottled poetry.”

Truly a California native, Symphony is a grape variety which was created at UC Davis in 1948, by crossing Grenache Gris and Muscat of Alexandria. The wine has a lovely floral bouquet with a lush fruity finish. This wine pairs great with spicy foods.
Made from vineyards planted in the early 1960’s, our 32nd vintage offers a fabulous balance of fruit and acidity. Grapefruit and fresh melon flavors give way to a refreshingly clean and crisp finish. Pair this Chenin Blanc with a variety of foods such as creamy seafood dishes over pasta, green salads and even grilled meats. The cellar potential for this white wine is more than 20 years! Just 226 cases.

Located across the street from the tasting room, the La Jolla del Norte vineyard was planted in 1975. From two of those blocks, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of clone 7 and a special selection of vines sources from Oakville’s Martha’s Vineyard. Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well in the volcanic soil of this hillside block and the 2009 was no exception. After picking, we gently removed the stems and fermented the wine in small bins. It was aged for 23 months in 75% new French Oak. The wine is elegant and structured with black fruit flavors and balanced alcohol. 220 cases produced.
2009 Meritage, Napa Valley, St. Helena Estate
$45 bottle / $540 case
In 1988, a group of American vintners formed the Meritage Alliance to identify and promote handcrafted wines blended from the traditional Bordeaux varietals. Our Meritage blend is similar to the wines of St. Emillion, with this vintage consisting of Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (50%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). This blend creates a full-bodied well balanced wine with flavors of blackberries and cassis. It pairs well with hard nutty cheeses, strong flavored game birds and earthy vegetables like mushrooms and eggplant. 250 cases were produced.

Our St. Helena Estate vineyard was originally planted to Petite Sirah in the 1920s and we’re happy to be able to continue this heritage with our ten year old block of this varietal. The result is a deeply colored wine with bold, brambly, peppery flavors. 200 cases produced.
